Previously, I kept various folders of emails under "On My Mac" in my mail archive.

When the new mail installed, and I expanded the "Archive" list, "On My Mac" was shown 5 times.

The top 4 wouldn't expand but their badges showed my unread messages the same as the 5th. When I clicked the 5th, it showed all my folders.

So I selected the first 4 and hit delete... Of course "On My Mac" is not a directory per-se so it deleted all "On My Mac" instances and my archived messages were gone.

I used time machine and restored my messages (of course not in folders any more) and moved them from the restored folder to the archive folder.

It went back to showing "On My Mac" 5 times, the last one expands to show messages and the others don't.

Going back into time machine again, now the number of messages "on my mac" is multiplied by 5 (it was around 2000, now about 10,000) and looking at the messages, there are 5 of each. Luckily only one of each is shown when I'm in mail itself.

At this point, I plant to whittle down my saved messages to 50 or so, export them, and completely remove and reinstall Mail unless anyone knows what the deal is...

Thanks!

Jeff
