I figured I was going to be smart (never a good idea), so I created a rule in Mail to have all received and sent mail that is more than two years old, moved to the Archive (just to clear up the really old stuff). Please bear in mind that this is a rule (from within Mail preferences > Rules), not a smart folder.
However, something went awry using said rule (probably due to my ignorance, somehow), and suddenly my archive appears to be a duplicate of EVERY SINGLE E-MAIL in Mail!
I see no way of deleting the archive (the option to do so is simply not present in Mail, at least not when I right-click on the archive icon). Furthermore, I cannot seem to "reset" or "revoke" the rule I made in the first place. The Archive icon and its contents seems to be etched in stone.
Furthermore, this is is eating up my iCloud storage. Mail used to take up 1GB of my iCloud storage. Now, after several failed attempts at removing the archive, Mail is using 2,2GB.
I tried deleting the actual mbox-file from /Users/Username/Library/Mail/V2/..... and then restarting Mail. In doing so, however, the mbox-file magically reappears. and continues to wreak havoc. Simply renaming the archive mbox removed it from view in Mail, but did nothing in terms of avoiding iCloud storage cannibalization. Deleting the rule did absolutely nothing in terms of resolving it.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I am oh so ducked! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
