Mail: attach a note to an email in inbox?

Hi

I am using Mail 5.3 (1283) on a 2009 mac book pro running 10.7.5

Is there a way to attach a note to an email in my inbox?

This would be very useful, for example, to remind me that I had to resolve a particular set of questions before I reply or must wait until after a give event etc
