mail attachment problems

After finding the attachment I want , it appears in my message box as a full image and not as an attachment also some files simply will not appear in the message box nor can they be dragged into box, what am I doing wrong? Thanks

You're not doing anything wrong. They're still attached. Mail is just showing the attachment in the message body on your end. How it appears to the recipient depends solely on what options they've selected in their mail client.
