Not sure if anyone else has seen this bug but when you are in mail and swipe to delete a message, then press the home button, return to mail app, the swipe goes away but you can't open any email. I found closing mail (task manager) fixed it or when a new mail comes in it fixes it too. I've tested this on an iPhone 5s and a 4s both running iOS 7.

Good spot, I can reproduce this on my iPhone 5 running 7.1 beta 5. Another way I find to get around it after you've reproduced it is pulling down to refresh.

Cool, glad to see it wasn't just me! I called Apple support and they tested it and saw the same bug so they will report it to their engineering team.

Even though the swipe is gone, if you hit the "done" button then you can open mail. At least that's the case on 7.1 b2.

Yes, you're right I didn't notice that the 'Done' button was still there (on 7.0.6 too). Still, it is annoying and Apple should probably fix it.

It is because when you swipe left.. you activate edit mode.
and it remain in edit mode.. as app is not closed..
Close mail app and you will back with read mode.
...

hope it helps.
