mail cannot download emails sent to self

Dear MacRumors Help,

I have mail sent to my university email account, forwarded to my gmail account (and deleted from my university account), then downloaded to Mail with a POP account. So far it's been working wonderfully, I give out my university email address and I can check my email either on Gmail or in my Mail client. The only problem is that when I send an email to myself (to my university email address) from Mail, the message reaches my Gmail account but then Mail doesn't download it, while it downloads all of the other messages.
Any idea what's going on?
