All iPads Mail: Deleted Messages Reappear

I've got a first-gen iPad, and I've had a problem with Mail since day one. Sometimes I delete emails, and then on the next sync, they reappear. Sometimes I have to delete them three or four times before they finally go away. This problem occurs on both POP and IMAP accounts but never Exchange.

Anyone else encounter this? Any idea what the culprit is?
