Hi everybody !

I have set up on my Macbook and iMac the same email account on Mail. They are both synced using IMAP. What I didn't expect was all my email to be deleted from both server and iMac when I deleted the account from the Macbook.

What did I do wrong? How could I avoid that in the future ?
I had 34 000 mails, and they're all gone now :(

Thank you =]

Alex

If you went to Mail>Preferences>Accounts, selected the account in the left column, then clicked the "-" button to delete then you did nothing wrong.

If, in the "Message Viewer" window of mail, you deleted mail folders from the left column, then you deleted mail from the account.

If you have a backup you should be able to restore anything you had up to the time of the backup.

Thank you for confirming Brian, I just figured that out setting up a new account.
at least it won't happen again !
