Mail does not seem to download and synch with other devices?

My iMac is still on Catalina while my MBP is on Big Sur and my iOS devices the latest iOS. The iMac's Mail program is not downloading and synching mail. Could it be because it is still on Catalina while the others are updated to newer OS versions? Any ideas why it is not synching? I have quit the program and rebooted and even re-entered some of the mail accounts.
