Mail downloads messages continuously

Mail downloads the same messages from each mailbox again and again unless I delete the messages from each server. This is a recent problem and I can't find any settings that are changed. I also use Entourage and it works normally.
I'm on a MB Pro, OS 10.6.1. Any ideas?
