Mail duplicates emails when retrieving from Hotmail

I have just set up Mail to use with Hotmail, and it spent the best part of half an hour retrieving the thousands of emails from my Hotmail account. Now when i open Mail, instead of just retrieving new emails, it retrieves all of them again, so now i have 5 or 6 duplicates of ever email! ANy idea how to stop this?
