Hi All,

I like to check with those installed Tahoe, if the Mail app now finally enables us to disable the automatic read feature. For years this is bugging me, and by the look of it, not just me.

No idea, what made Apple so stuborn to make such a simple feature non existent.

Thanks!

what's that ?

what's that ?
When you delete an email you're reading, Mail automatically displays the next email and marks it as read. All other email apps allow you to set a specified time of having an email displayed before it marks it as read.

There is a plugin for the existing OS Mail app that does this, but it's ridiculously expensive if all you want is that one feature (the plugin does all sorts of things).

Yes. There are two new settings in the Viewing tab of Mail settings:
- An "Automatically view next message after discarding or archiving a message" checkbox
- A "Mark as Read Behavior" menu with Default, All Messages, and Never options. When you select "Never" the message is never marked as read automatically when you open it; you have to manually mark it.

I've removed my comment because after re-reading the above, I see that Apple has somewhat addressed the issue... at least, in the Beta. Hopefully the feature stays in the final release.

Just for reference, this option was made available in macOS 15.5.
Uncheck "Automatically view the next message after discarding or archiving a message"
