Mail folder hogging 28gb space

How can I reduce the size of this folder in my ~Library folder?

By deleting items from your Mail store. Perhaps you have attachments you no longer need, perhaps you have sent items with large attachments, perhaps people sent you things like videos . . . your library is where Mail stores all that stuff. I'd advise against going directly into the V2 library and deleting things. Do it via Mail itself.

Are you using Gmail by any chance? What OS version are you on?

Looks like you have 28 gigs of mail. An impressive amount, probably attachments. Consider archiving the older ones to a separate backup disk.
