Mail freezes with specific Gmail account

This behaviour is reproducable on different machines (running the latest beta or the App Store version of El Capitan): Mail works perfect with two of my three Gmail accounts enabled, but as soon as I activate the third one, it freezes and doesn't wake up again (I waited several hours, nothing happened).

There was no problem at all on Yosemite, this behavior started with El Capitan. Are there any ides what could fix this?

Can you explain the behavior you are experiencing when you say "it freezes?"

Does the application become unresponsive and not display emails or email contents? (causing you to force quit)
