OK, so recently i've been trying to set up my hotmail account to be able to use mail that comes on macs. Is it possible? if so what kind of account is it? and what is the server? thanks. sorry if it seems stupid.

It is possible - one solution is HTTPMail, with a couple of provisos - it doesn't seem to work on Intel Macs, and you may have to upgrade to Hotmail plus, but apart from that it works well.
I think there are others, if this doesn't work for you. Try searching these forums a bit, you should find something useful.
