mail in panther server delete problem

so i have always had my mail accounts set to "delete from server when removed from inbox"... and while i'd like to be able to hand pick which ones i delete from server (a la entourage), this has been working for me

in panther however, it doesn't seem to delete the messages from my server at all... or at least not most of them.

anyone else encounter this? any ideas?
