Just got a new iPhone 11 and the SIM card slot doesn't work. I'm thinking of sending it in for mail in repairs to Apple since all the stores are closed right now for who knows how long.

I see that they need to charge amounts to my credit card before I send this in, and there's a charge for "WHOLE UNIT MAIL IN SHIPPING CHARGE". Do I need to pay to have this phone shipped?

Also there's a charge for IPHONE 11 NON-REPAIRABLE 64GB, I'm guessing this is in case I need to pay for a new phone due to some irreparable, non-warranty damage?

If you send them the phone first, they won’t charge you anything.

If there is absolutely no physical damage and have not dropped it or anything, it’ll be replaced through the limited one year warranty.

I would guess one is the shipping and the other is the hold as they’re sending you a new device first.

It’s a hold. They mail you a working phone and you send them back your defective phone and they remove the hold, assuming there’s no physical damage you didn’t make them aware of. You don’t end up paying for anything, Apple covers the cost of shipping. You just have to be ok with that hold and trust there won’t be any issues getting it back to apple in once piece (and looking pristine). Just did this with an iPad Pro, have almost a thousand dollar hold on my credit card. Great reminder to mail the broken one back lol.
