Mail issue

New iMac AL 24" iMac running Leopard.
I have created folders on "On my Mac" that I send mail to through rules. one folder has 2 sub folders. One of the sub folders shows mail (the number to the right of the folder icon reads 8) but when I look in the folder it is empty.
Anyone have anything I can try to remedy this problem?
I have Entourage 2004. Should I switch to that ?
