I have a Macbook Pro 10.9.5, ever since updating to 10.9 I have had issues with my Gmail account and Mail. About 15 or so times a day I will not be able to send or receive emails. I go into Activity and it has either 'Gmail Fetching new email 1 of xxxx (ATM it's 156,407) or "Gmail Synchronizing 'All Mail - Gmail' 1 of xxxx".
I have tried to re-add the mail account but that made it worse. I have tried to google the issue and have not had any luck.
Any ideas on how to stop this or why it keeps happening?
Any help would be appreciated!

How big is your Gmail account? It can take a couple of days for this activity to settle down if you have a huge email account, but it eventually will, have to be patient. I really wish Apple could do a bit better with the mail app in this regard, there is otherwise nothing better and more clean out there as a a desktop mail client.
