Mail/messages crashing after Sierra

About once a day with no obvious provocation I've had mail crash, then messages right afterwards. The message I get on the mail crash is:

On console, I keep seeing "skipping upgrade for locked keychain."

Any ideas?

...and something else weird just happened. On messages, all the names were replaced by phone numbers. When I tried to start a new message and typed in a name, it crashed. When I reopened it, it was back to normal. ????????
