Mail not fetching mail

Hi there,
I have a google mail account which i use in the apple mail app and it has worked great for so long until now. When i click 'get mail' absolutely nothing happens. Not even the little circle indicating that its working on it. I tried adding the account again and still the same thing. My mail account is working fine on my iphone and on the browser version. Any ideas?
