Mail not playing sounds

I recently decided to stop using hotmail, and now own a mobileme address and a gmail address.

I have been using the built in mail app for the past week now which i really prefer to hotmail.

Iv came across an issue though.. and when I have tried googling for answers I get none.. i just get threads of complaining about the same issue.

The mail app wont play a sound when I recieve a new email (iv looked into the settins etc and even tried to select other sounds and its still a no go)

Anyone got any idea how to fix this?
