My girlfriend's iMac G5 started giving just a red dot when new mail arrived instead of the normal dot with white number showing how many new mails. Here's a pic for reference. I've tried repairing permissions, but nothing needed fixing. The only thing different is I installed Airport Disk utility. Curious if anybody else had ever seen this and knew how to fix it.
