Mail notifications

I have my email set to fetch every 30 minutes so I would stop getting a ton of notifications. But now I get like 5 or 6 at a time, one right after the other and if I'm doing something it's annoying to have to swipe them up and away every time.

Is there a way to get my mail notification to just say "you have x email messages" or something to condense it down into 1 notification when it decides to fetch my mail?

As far as I know, you can't do that. But, hope glimmers on the horizon, as you may be able to conjure something up in IFTTT
