Mail Problem....please help?

I have an AT&T account (bellsouth.net).
My inbox now has a ~, and I cant send or receive email.
My User Name and Password are the same as Ive had for years, now all of a sudden, I keep getting a dropdown screen telling me that my User Name and/or my PW are incorrect. And that ~ is always in my Inbox.
AT&T tech support phone number is constantly busy.
Can someone please help?

That ~ symbol you are seeing means the account is "offline" (not connected). You will need to resolve this with AT&T.
