Mail Problem

I can use the Apple mail program to receive mail, but whenever I try to send mail, it shows that I am offline. All my settings seem to be okay. What could be causing this to happen?

What do you have your settings at?

are you using POP, IMAP, Exchange.....

I am using POP with Charter.net

Got it fixed. I called Charter but they referred me to Apple support. Went through my settings and turned off authentication required. All is good now.
