There are times when I get so exasperated that it hurts. We use MacMail as our client and have a number of Pop and imap mail accounts and are forever experiencing problems. Admittedly we do have excessively big mailboxes, but it goes with the territory. So, some questions:

Why does Mac Mail continually cache iCloud accounts and can we stop this?
We are using clara.co.uk for some pop mail accounts and struggle to get them stable and to have them send mail - does anyone else have the same problems - we have spoken to clara but got nowhere?

I don't know anything about Clara, but as far as iCloud mail goes, it uses IMAP and that is how IMAP works... it syncs everything on the account to the Mail client.

I have the same problem since updating to Mavericks. Other computers on earlier OS X are fine. I have spent ages trying to get to the bottom of this but to no avail. Deleting the iCloud on the computer makes no difference. Mail does not exhibit this behaviour on my Gmail account. Can't find any preference that would make a difference.
