Mail question

I have an iPhone 3G and just upgraded to 3.0 software.

I never check my email from my iPhone because i work from home & am on my Mac all day.

Under Settings > Mail > Fetch New Data > I have it turned off and Fetch to Manual

However if I open the Mail app it always goes out & gets my mail. All I want to do is send an email without Fetching anything new.
