Mail sending out more e-mails than I am sending

I write one email, and hit send. Immediately after, under "mail activity," it will indicate that I am sending multiple email. WHen I check my "sent" box, I only see the email I intended to send out.

Is my computer spamming people without my knowledge?

Edit: MBP 2.2 SR running Leopard...if that makes a difference

How does Mail Activity make you think that Mail is sending out multiple copies of messages?
