Hi, I have a iMac running Mavericks, I setup a web server with XAMPP, now I like to learn how to set it up as a mail server which I have no clue how to begin. I am wonder if I can do this on a run of the mill Mavericks or do I need to have the Mavericks Server version to accomplish this?

TIA

It all depends on how much you need to be guided. All versions of Mac OS X are unix, so you can run sendmail, postfix, etc.. on them.

Which you choose depends on what you actually want to do with this mail server.

If you want a nice GUI point and click way to do that, then buying Mavericks server for $20 is about what you might pay for another install/configure interface.

Oh yeah, I forgot about sendmail, postfix, etc. So I guess the server version is
sendmail, postfix with an easier an pretty UI?
