mail shows "new" msgs, but I can't see or delete them

I have recently transferred my mail files and what not from one hard drive to another.

All my accounts seemed to transfer fine except for a few things:

I'm in classic view (for ease of reference).

My draft folder, collapsed, shows I have 10 "new" drafts. When I expand the folder is shows 8 in one account and 2 in another account, but I cannot view any. The whole folder seems blank, yet it shows an 8 and a 2.

I also show 102 "New" messages in my junk folder. But if I try to delete the junk folder messages, the iMac just makes the error sound.

what is going on here?
