Since upgrading to Lion one or two of my mailboxes (gmail imap) don’t sort by date properly. This just applies to some of the emails in the boxes. The problem is with Apple Mail on my Mac as everything is fine on my iPad and Googlemail in a web browser. I tried deleting the com.apple.mail.plist file, but this made it worse since it gave every email the same date so I quickly put back the original. I rebooted from a clean copy of Lion on an external drive and setup the email account in Mail on that system and everything works fine. So something somewhere seems to have got corrupted on my main Mac Drive.
I’m tempted to load all the emails on that external drive and then copy everything across to my main drive, but am a bit hesitant when I’m not sure if this might not screw things up even more, or perhaps I might miss something out, given that I’m not sure where all the various bit of Mail are located.
Would appreciate any suggestions from you good people who know more than I do about the structure of Mail.
Edit - Solution found: rebuild the Envelope Index file. (Google or search for 'Reindexing Messages' at Apple support.)
