I am not sure what I did but when I am in Mac Mail I used to have a split view. so if I selected an email, I could read it below. I don't have anything below but if I double click on it I can see the entire email.

Double click the tiny dot at the very bottom of the window
You can also resize it

It's on the very bottom of the main Mail window, actually on the window border. It's a small grey circle. Either double click it and the window will split in two or click and drag it up.
 
I seriously don't see it. I have nothing at the bottom. On the left side I have the mail box items like the + and icon settings. Could I be on a different mail version?
 
OK, if you don't have Split View, you should see the circle/dot here:

Just double click or drag it up.

If you do have Split View the split will show in the window like this:
