Mail: When I send one email, I am told that 2-3 messages are being sent

When sending email through Mac OS X Mail, the "mail activity" box on the lower left hand corner says that there are 2-3 outgoing messages when I am only sending one message. When I look in the sent mail folder, the only message there is the one I just sent. Does anyone know why the program would to that?

Mabye attachments count as another message? Just a guess ...

Showing that I am sending more than one e-mail when I only send one

I am having the same problem and would really like to know why the apple mail program says I am sending more than one e-mail, when I am only sending one.
