Mail will not deliver messages, but can receive

I'm having a problem with Mail and I am not sure if it the root is within Mail or with my email address. Mail will not deliver messages, and after a while I a "Error-message could not be delivered.... the connection to the server... on port 25 timed out " message pops up. Should I change the port number under the preferences menu?

Try changing the port number:

I had a similar issue at work, could receive but not send. The info on that apple help page fixed my issue.
