Mail will not send!

I am having some issues with my mail app. I went to send an email with an attachment and it would not send, I had to delete it. Then today it would not send a simple txt reply, but 30 min later the sent message sounded and it showed sent. It just shows the spinning symbol next to sent..any ideas on how to repair this?

btw I am using a yahoo account in the mail app

quit the mail app and reopen it . then try to send the mail, thats what help me.

What SMTP server are you using to send the email? What are the settings supposed to be? What settings are you using?

The mail was working fine and then it just stopped working...I made sure that all of the settings were correct and they are..I just selected the box that says "only use this server" and it seems to be working right now..but I haven't tried sending any attachments yet
