Mail, with Gmail (labels - folders?)

Hey,
I would like to use my mac like a mac, and use the benefit of having all the apps cooperate so well. Of course I'd have to use those apps first!

I'd like to start using Mail.app for my mail, with Gmail. Ok, no problem setting it up, but is there any way I can use the LABELS (fake folders in gmail) and turn them into folders or labels in Mail?

ANy other tips for a smooth Mail & Gmail integration?

If you set Mail.app up using Gmail and Imap, Mail does this automatically... I actually find it annoying. Try it and you will see what I mean, you might even like it.

how do I enable this imap? Sorry super newbie!
