I've been using mail with an gmail account for a long time and it worked great. After the Tiger update, for some reason I didn't set up mail and just used my email through the gmail website. A month ago, I set up mail again using the same gmail account following all directions and again, I love it. I would love to keep using it, but it acts strangely when sending email to another gmail account holder. The mail never sends out that and this message pops up:
Cannot send message using the server smtp.gmail.com

the server response was: 5.5.1 Authentication Required g7sm3232735wra
Use the pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail...

And this ONLY occurs when trying to email another gmail account. Other emails are fine.

Is there something in the settings I messed up?
