Very odd thing that's driving me crazy.

I'm running 10.5.4. Mac Mail won't allow me to attach a document to a message. Whether I drag-and-drop the document or open the menu and select a document, the file doesn't "stick." There's no error message or anything... it simply doesn't take.

The weird thing is that I only have this problem when I compose a new message. I can attach things just fine as long as I am replying to an email.

What gives?

On a different note, does anyone know when are they going to fix that annoying iCal bug that greys out the "today" button?

My guess is that you are forgetting to confirm the selection of your files to be attached.

I'm having the exact same problem. When replying, attachment works fine. Composing new message, no dice. Same behavior whether I use the paperclip to attach, or drag and drop, so it's not a problem with confirming attachments. I'm running 10.5.6 and have even resorted to the ol' windows tactic of rebooting to no avail. Did you ever get an answer or fix to the problem?

thanks,
james

I did finally figure out what it was.

Go to the Edit Menu, go down to "attachments," and make sure that "Always Insert Attachment at End of Message" is NOT checked. I don't know why, but I can't get attachments to work when it is checked.

Many thanks for this tip Mike.

I too had this problem and it was driving me crazy. It worked!:D

Are you trying to paste a shortcut?

This happened to me. But it turned out that I was trying to paste a shortcut from my external drive that I hadn't turned on yet.
Hopefully this helps someone. :)

Duh

OK, so I was having the same problem, purpose of email is to send these files, so its the first thing I try to do. No go, find forum, uncheck as suggested,Yay, puter works. Brain says, "hmm?", then do a test, new email message, recheck stupid rule, type one letter, try to attach file, and it attaches. So.... the always attach file at end of message rule is too stupid to know that it should still attach a file even if I have not typed yet. This is why I am not a Mac fan. Intuitive? Thats what folks keep telling me... ..
