this is my first post - excuse me if I don't get all the protocol correct

I have an Apple Air - and it was time to clear out my overfull inbox. I highlighted old emails and dragged them to my trash bin (bottom right on the screen) - mistake I know, i should have just pressed delete.

Now Mail won't open or quit.

I have used ideas from other postings - but still the little dot appears under the Mail icon.

Force quit won't work.
Double click on the icon and quit - won't work.
Shut down and restart - no change.

Any ideas
many thanks

Hi,

try this :

Launch Activity Monitor (Applications / Utilities), sort the processes by name, select "Mail", and click the large red button on the upper left corner.

Click "Force Quit".

Then reboot the Mac.
