I was considering clearing my phone of photos and videos and starting fresh now that I've upgraded to iOS 10 on my 6S. I've been migrating my photo library over (for the most part) since my 3G days and I felt it was time to clear it out since I'm up to almost 12 gigs and I know a good quarter to a third of it is junk I won't look at again. I have everything backed up using Google Photos and to a computer. (I didn't realize all the neat movies and stuff that it would do after it analyzed my photos the way Google photos does). I read it would do face recognition but I am used to this from way back in the iPhoto days.

My question is, if I go through and name the faces in the pictures on my phone, will it maintain whatever database it creates during that analysis if I remove all of the current pictures? Or will I have to rename faces in new pictures as if I never named the old ones to begin with? This isn't the most important thing in the world, I guess it's just a curiosity that came over me, I doubt it will have any real bearing on whether I delete all of the photos/videos or not.
