I have an original iPhone and an iPhone SE. I would like to keep these forever, but I am afraid of the battery either leaking, swelling or worse exploding in my apartment (and setting it on fire). What are the best measures to upkeep it for the long haul?

Thanks!

Well, the usual advice for long-storage of batteries is to disconnect them... But of course to do that in an iPhone would be very counter-intuitive if you want to keep them forever.

Maybe some air-evacuated/vacuum storage box/receptacle? Would prevent moisture and whatnot in the air from bothering stuff. Then keep it in the dark so no sun gets to it, maintaining it at a constant and low-ish temperature?

Dunno... Just some logical in the box thinking haha

Yep I hear about half charged is good for storage, you will still need to take out and recharge every once in a while.
Apple says it themselves "Store it half-charged when you store it long term."

Also, OP make sure you store it in good temperatures!!!

I would place the iPhones into their original boxes, place both boxes within a small compartment such as a cardboard shoebox and throw in some silica gel packs to prevent moisture buildup, I'd thereafter stick the shoe box into a dark & dry location such as a cupboard.

I wouldn't worry about them exploding, that seems... unlikely. In my experience unless you're consistently charging it eventually it will just die so I doubt you could store it indefinitely. If you're only worried about them leaking, swelling or exploding though I think store them in a cool, dry place and you're good to go.

That's not Samsung. It will not blow up from itself. Also they got on fire during charging so if you leave them turned off nothing will happen. Except if it get high temperature from outside of phone.
