maintaining picture descriptions in Photo

I am transferring pictures from a old hard drive onto a new hard drive and I want to keep the individual picture descriptions (found when you click the information button in the lower left hand corner of iPhoto). I can transfer the photos easily, but the descriptions do not transfer with the photos. Does anyone know if it is possible to keep those descriptions, and how I can do it? Both hard drives are using iPhoto 09
