I just bought my wife (photographer and journalist) a MBP and wanted to look for programs that would make maintenance easier for her.

This is our first mac and I am out of town often for work, so any suggestions for programs to use that would help to automatically do or at least remind her to do standard maintenance issues is appreciated.

Macaroni

Try Macaroni from (I think) Atomic Bird Software. Does a variety of daily/weekly/monthly jobs in the background. Totally invisible. It just works. Also can remove language elements from all applications, so if you don't actually need Gaelic/Catalan/Pidjin it can free up some space.

No connection to the software company - just a happy user.
