So, about three weeks ago I bought a new 7200 RPM Western Digital 320 GB HD for my Unibody MacBook. I initially did a complete copy of my Mac Partition but did NOT switch over my Boot Camp partition. I thought I would have to use the software that came with my USB HD converter kit.

When I originally formatted the HD, I made one 230 GB partition for Mac. Left the remaining for future transfer of Windows Boot Camp image. So, the other day I decide it is time to get this Boot Camp partition transferred over to the new HD. I take the new HD back out of the MB. I put the old HD back into the MB. I boot into Vista. I go to make the partition in the now external USB HD which is my 320 GB Western Digital. I go into the control panel, and I select an option that says something like GUID partition... Next thing I see is that there is ONE partition of 128 MB on the external HD that has ALL of my Mac partition had been using for three weeks. It is GONE! GONE GONE GONE!

I panic. I take out the HD, I put the new one in to make sure I am wrong and everything is fine with my Mac partition... I get a question mark on the screen...

So, I try putting the old HD back in the computer, boot into OS X and see if I can miraculously see the partition... NOPE!

Now, I try to log back into Windows, NOPE! Get a fatal error flaw.

Now, I have one working partition and three weeks worth of EVERYTHING GONE.

Is there any way to read the info off the HD even though it is not showing any partition other than the 128 MB? I mean the only thing going on here is somehow the partition was lost... but all of the data should be on this HD, right?

I am using my original HD again. I am writing a book, and about 80 hours of time is LOST until I get this back. No, I did not make a backup. That was to happen with the original HD once I got the Windows Boot Camp partition transferred. And, my old 60 GB USB HD is/was full with Mac backups from before got the new MB... I really screwed up. I don't care about anything but the simple Word files and folder containing the last three weeks worth of work. I can reinstall Windows and all of the programs on my Mac onto the new HD once I get this problem taken care of.

Any chance? How do I read a disk that has lost a partition but has not been written over or reformatted?

Thanks for any assistance.
