I'm posting this here because Apple is telling me that this is an iOS16 issue, although you'll notice at the end of my story that it also seems to be affecting MacOS too, but oddly enough, signing in at appleid.apple.com is no problem at all.

Got my iPhone 14 Pro yesterday, started to set up using "Quick Start" (transferring apps and data by keeping old phone close to new phone).
During the process, I get to a screen that tells me that some of my apps have been downloaded with a different AppleID (they haven't), and it needs my password for my CURRENT AppleID to provide access to them. I put in my password, hit next, but it doesn't move on from this screen. No error, no password rejection, just nothing. I can keep hitting next over and over again, nothing.
The only way past that screen was to hit "skip this step." Phone finishes setting up, I see my Home Screen and it looks like my old phone, but every non stock app says "Waiting." If I tap on them, it looks like it tries to download, doesn't and then says "Unable to install app, try again later." Now the icon isn't greyed out, but instead full brightness, but the little cloud icon is next to the name. Tapping on the app says the same thing "Unable to install app, try again later."
I talk to Apple, they get me to try a few things, force restore the OS from desktop, try the install again, same problem. Try to install manually (no transfer of apps or data), that works, however, once logged in, and I go to settings at tap my name at the top, they'd get me to tap "Media and Purchases." This asks me if I'm me, or want to sign in with a different ID, I say me, it says "Signing into Apple services," and then just says "Could not sign in - Authentication failed." This puzzles the Apple people.
They have me log in to my ID at appleid.apple.com, and have me check a few settings. In "reachable at" the old old old email from a decade old AppleID is in there. They have me remove that. They then ask if I'm able to sign into the old Apple ID. I'd forgotten the password but still have access to the email so I reset it, sign in, and they see that my new AppleID is listened as a backup/recovery email. They have me remove it. Now on my old phone (where I'm still signed in), they have me sign out and try to sign back in. Authentication failed. Now I can't sign in at all.
Since then, all my devices are asking me to sign in, and no matter where, I get all kinds of errors. Could not sign in, authentication failed, etc.
Apple has no idea what's going on, but says engineers are aware and working on an iOS16 update to fix the issue, however Mac OSX is also asking me to sign in, and when I attempt to, saying it could not sign in, verification failed, etc.
Anyone else experiencing this, have any idea what's up, know how to solve?
