So I installed Leopard, but I'm having major problems.

To put it simply, when I try to quit any application, it hangs in the dock, and refuses to force quit by any method (I now have 3 Quicksilver icons in my iMac dock from the repeated attempts to quit and restart the app).

Also, the machine refuses to shut down or restart except by force (holding down the power button)

Any suggestions?

Perhaps try repairing permissions (from disk utility), otherwise I'm not sure. What kind of install did you do - upgrade, archive and install, or fresh install?
