Major OSX Problems - 10.4.7 related?

hola,
10.4.7 update came out and i was able to download it, but it wouldn't complete the installation. (I was updating 10.4.6 on a 1.25 eMac with 1GB RAM fwiw).

Ever since then, my eMac has been sluggish. Lots of beach balls and I'm unable to minimize applications when double clicking on the title bar.

help?!?

How did it not install? At what point did it stop and did it give any reason for stopping? Have you tried downloading and installing the combo update?

the update gave me an error message along the lines of "could not complete installation, please try again."

strange, i know. i'm trying the combo update now...

no dice. "could not complete installation."

since the original failed 10.4.7 attempt, the only thing i've done out of the ordinary was set up another user account, though i haven't even used it.

other problems - won't recognize my external FW drive. trash can contains items, but appears empty.

never had any problems like this with OSX before. what's going on?
