I am in desperate need of help! Yesterday I decided to upgrade to Catalina. I couldn’t use your method because System Update only gave me the Big Sur option. So, I downloaded the Catalina 15.7 Combo. When trying to use this it said 10.15 had to be installed first. I thought the point of the combo was that it was all there. Well, you can’t get the base 10.15 anymore, so the next option was DosDude1’s patch. This worked a dream and I was using the system with no problems…however….

About half an hour ago I needed to use the headphones with Premiere Pro - I’d been using the Bluetooth speaker - but I could not get any sound, and found the Sound Out option had gone! Went to the System Preferences and it wasn’t there either. Looked up known fixes at Apple, one being to reset the NVRAM, which I did. This seems to wipe out the RX580 patch so I ended up with a black screen after load. (It gets worse!) Following the Apple advise I reset the SMC. Now I have a black screen all of the time!

Option-R doesn’t seem to work either. Is there any advise you can give? This would happen just when my son was using my machine for editing a job whilst his laptop is away being fixed. What a day.

Of course you can still get the Catalina installer. Why do people continue to bother making this claim? It's so easily disproven.
