Hi All,
I am having a complete nightmare with my MBP!
I was using it 2 days ago for some light photoshop work and I got the spinning beach ball for ever, finder & PS stopped responding, so I forced quit PS and relaunched Finder. Still nothing, so shut the MBP down and it would not restart. The power light on the front comes on, the disc drive does its little whir and nothing, no HD activity, no nothing!!
I presumed it was a logic board failure, but I tried everything on the Apple site, the PRam, the SMC, booting off the OS disc and I also tried booting in safe mode, but still the MB was dead and just the front power light was on. So, I left it to one side and tried to forget about it.
Around 4 hours later I tried to restart the machine and it booted up fine! So I quickly attached my LaCie drive to back up all the data, I managed to back up most, but then it disconnected the drive and I couldn't mount it again. I tried the HD on another MB and it mounts every which way, so I know that is fine. I tried restarting the MBP and again.... nothing.
I left it a few hours and sure as hell it boots up again... this time I attached the HD and again it wouldn't mount via Firewire, but it was fine on USB 2.0?!
I checked the system profiler and it couldn't find any FW info, so I guessed that had stopped working.
Again, I shut it down for the night and it happily booted up again the next day... this time though, the system profiler said the FW buses were all ok and sure as hell it mounted the FW drive!
I decided to do a clean re-install of the OS, but as soon as it tried to restart, the machine has died again and nothing but the light on the front, but this time my OS disc is in the drive.
I can't fathom out what the problem is with my MBP, it seems totally random... it just doesn't like restarting unless a good period of time has passed...
Does anyone have any ideas what may be wrong with my crazy MBP?!?!?
BTW, its a MBP, 2.16 (2nd Gen Core 2 Duo) with 2GB
